Pranic Healing

A systematic, no-touch energy healing modality using prana (life force) to cleanse and energize the body's energy field, founded by Master Choa Kok Sui in 1987.

What is Pranic Healing?

Pranic Healing is a no-touch energy healing system that works with prana—the Sanskrit term for life force or vital energy—to accelerate the body’s natural ability to heal physical, emotional, and mental ailments. Practitioners assess the energy body surrounding the physical form, identify areas of energetic depletion or congestion, and apply specific techniques to cleanse diseased energy and project fresh prana into affected areas. The practice operates on the principle that physical ailments often manifest first in the energy field before appearing in the physical body, and that correcting energetic imbalances can substantially speed recovery.

Unlike traditional hands-on healing, Pranic Healing is performed without physical contact, typically with the practitioner’s hands working several inches away from the client’s body. It synthesizes ancient esoteric knowledge with a methodical, protocol-driven approach designed to be teachable, testable, and replicable across diverse conditions.

Origins & Lineage

Pranic Healing was founded by Master Choa Kok Sui, born August 15, 1952, in Cebu, Philippines. A chemical engineer by training, Master Choa was drawn to paranormal and spiritual matters from age twelve. He spent more than 30 years researching esoteric sciences, examining healing techniques from various traditions, including yoga, Chinese Chi Kung, Rosicrucian teachings, Theosophy, Astara, and Kabbalah.

Throughout 1983 to 1987, Master Choa worked on synthesizing, experimenting, validating, and systematizing what would become Modern Pranic Healing. His first book, The Ancient Science and Art of Pranic Healing (later retitled Miracles Through Pranic Healing), was published in late 1987 and has since been translated into more than 30 languages. Much of his experimental work was conducted with clairvoyant collaborators Mang Nenet and Mang Mike, who observed energetic changes during healing sessions.

The World Pranic Healing Foundation was established on July 23, 1990, in the Philippines. Before his passing on March 19, 2007, Master Choa authored 25 books and established more than 100 Pranic Healing Centers in over 90 countries.

How It’s Practiced

A Pranic Healing session begins with the practitioner scanning the energy body—a luminous field that interpenetrates and extends beyond the physical body. Practitioners learn to sensitize their hands to detect energetic irregularities: areas that feel depleted, congested, or imbalanced. The healing process follows a structured three-step protocol.

First, the practitioner cleanses diseased or used-up energy from the affected chakras (energy centers) and surrounding areas using sweeping motions, often flicking the removed energy into a bowl of salt water to prevent reabsorption. Second, fresh prana is projected into the cleansed areas using specific hand positions and visualizations, often with colored prana tailored to the condition—orange-red for infections, green for tissue repair, violet for severe ailments. Third, the energy is stabilized and sealed to prevent leakage.

Pranic Healing is performed without physical touch. The life force transmitted is universal energy, not the healer’s personal energy; trained practitioners access and transmit this energy using specific frequencies and techniques for particular diseases. Sessions typically address the eleven major chakras Master Choa identified, along with meridians and minor energy centers relevant to the presenting condition.

Practitioners follow detailed protocols outlined in Master Choa’s texts for dozens of conditions, from simple ailments like headaches and colds to complex issues involving the heart, liver, kidneys, and psychological disturbances. The system emphasizes repeatability: given the same energetic pattern, different trained practitioners should apply similar interventions.

Pranic Healing Today

Pranic Healing is encountered primarily through workshops and certification courses taught by licensed instructors affiliated with the Institute for Inner Studies or regional Pranic Healing foundations. The foundational Basic Pranic Healing course typically spans two days and teaches scanning, cleansing, energizing, and protocols for common physical ailments. Advanced courses cover psychological healing, crystal healing applications, and pranic psychotherapy.

Seekers may find local Pranic Healing centers offering free or donation-based healing clinics where certified practitioners provide sessions to the public. The practice has spread across six continents, with active communities in India, the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Many practitioners integrate Pranic Healing into wellness centers, yoga studios, or complementary health practices.

Master Choa also developed Arhatic Yoga, an advanced spiritual practice offered to experienced Pranic Healers focused on accelerating soul development through meditation, energy work, and character refinement. This system represents the spiritual dimension of the Pranic Healing lineage.

Online platforms now host Pranic Healing meditation sessions, lectures, and study groups, though hands-on training remains essential for certification. The practice attracts engineers, healthcare professionals, and spiritual seekers drawn to its systematic methodology and claim of verifiable results.

Common Misconceptions

Pranic Healing is not a religious practice, though it draws on concepts from yoga, Taoism, and esoteric traditions. Master Choa emphasized its secular, scientific nature and encouraged practitioners of all faiths to integrate it with their existing beliefs.

It is not a replacement for conventional medical treatment. Pranic Healing organizations consistently advise clients to continue working with licensed physicians and view energy healing as complementary, not alternative, medicine. The system does not diagnose disease in the conventional sense; practitioners assess energetic patterns, not pathology.

Pranic Healing is not synonymous with pranayama (yogic breathing exercises), though both work with prana. Pranayama cultivates life force through breath control; Pranic Healing manipulates the energetic field directly through intention and hand techniques.

The practice does not require innate psychic ability. Master Choa designed the system to be accessible to anyone willing to learn and practice the techniques, regardless of prior energetic sensitivity. Scanning skills develop through repetition and focused attention, not mystical talent.

How to Begin

The most direct entry point is Master Choa Kok Sui’s book Miracles Through Pranic Healing, which explains core concepts, demonstrates basic techniques with illustrations, and provides protocols for self-healing and healing others. Reading offers intellectual understanding, but hands-on practice is essential for skill development.

Attending a Basic Pranic Healing workshop provides experiential training under a certified instructor. These courses teach students to feel energy, perform scans, and execute cleansing and energizing techniques through partner practice. The Institute for Inner Studies and regional Pranic Healing foundations maintain directories of authorized instructors and upcoming workshops.

Beginners can also visit a local Pranic Healing center for a session as a recipient, experiencing the work firsthand before committing to training. Many centers offer free healing clinics on specific evenings, providing an accessible introduction to the practice.

For those drawn to the spiritual dimensions, Master Choa’s writings on meditation and Arhatic Yoga extend the energetic principles into contemplative practice, though these advanced teachings typically require completion of foundational Pranic Healing courses and ongoing practice under guidance.
